about
'Cremation Memes' tells the story of a nightmare in which the singer’s dead (and ninety-three year-old) father starts texting him, headlining Glastonbury (whilst getting erotic piercings) and replacing him in his other band (Yorkshire Vs Essex. He then starts criticising him as he always did. A true nightmare, set alongside some of the songs the old fellow used to sing…and some beats.
This single, released exclusively on Bandcamp, is taken from our first album, released on November 29th.
lyrics
8: CREMATION…MEMES…(Indian love call)
You see, my dead dad texted me the other night; his nonagenarian digits never navigated phones in life…
Tweets too & then WhatsApp, cremation memes and Snapchet…
Till he preened in front of me, iPod Mini rocking with Nelson Eddy… rocking Nelson Eddy
When I’m calling you; when I’m calling you…
The man that replies, is not what I worked for
That’s why I’m never calling you!
Dad’s got dreadlocks now, and he’s headlined Glastonbury; he’s got a PA ring and replaced me in YVE.
Though so different, his disappointment remains explosive; ever the grafter, he was always homophobic.
I recall the real-life chat, laced with bitter bile, when he equated some gay man to a paedophile.
But, despite these nightmares in which he always stars, he’s in the gentler dreams as well, plnkaplonking on guitars.
If my head hits a pillow, he’s there – serenading me. Everytime, Everytime, Everytime…
Operettas, nonsense songs, and even nursery rhymes…operettas, nonsense songs and even nursery rhymes…
When I’m calling you
In happy moments, day by day…
…Tramp, tramp, tramp along the highway…
Hi diddle dee, a little boy for me… hey diddly dee, a little boy for me
I’ll always be, I’ll always be calling you
You see, my dead dad texted me the other night…
